Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather your ingredients.
- Dice about 2 cups of ripe tomatoes and place them in a mixing bowl. Mince 2 cloves of garlic and finely dice half a small red onion, adding both to the bowl.
- Chop a handful of fresh basil leaves and add them to your tomato mixture, along with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, a pinch of kosher salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir gently.
- Allow your tomato mixture to sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes.
- Slice your Italian style bread loaf into ½-inch thick pieces. Arrange on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes.
- Remove the toasted bread and rub each slice lightly with a whole garlic clove, then sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
- Top each slice with the fresh tomato mixture and serve immediately.
