Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks and 0.5 cups of sugar until thick and pale, about 5 minutes. Fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until just combined.
  2. In another bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form, about 3-4 minutes. Fold gently into the mascarpone mixture.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix 1 cup of hot espresso with 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur if desired. Let cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Dip ladyfingers quickly into the espresso mixture and layer them in a 9x13 inch dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  5. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture. Smooth the top layer evenly.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  7. Dust cocoa powder over the top before serving. Slice and enjoy!
