Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
  • 1 tablespoon hot water
  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or coconut cream for a dairy-free option
  • Ice cubes optional, for iced version

Method

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the matcha green tea powder and hot water until smooth and well combined. Use a bamboo whisk or a small electric frother for best results.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the honey (or maple syrup) and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. This can be done using a hand mixer or a whisk.
  4. If serving hot, pour the warm milk mixture into a mug, then gently spoon the whipped cream on top. If serving iced, fill a glass with ice cubes, pour the milk mixture over the ice, and then add the whipped cream on top.
  5. Finally, drizzle the prepared matcha over the whipped cream for a beautiful layered effect. Serve immediately and enjoy!
