  • 680 grams Pears about 4 medium
For Flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice prevents browning
  • 1 unit Vanilla Bean or 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • 2 tablespoons Light Brown Sugar substitute with maple syrup or honey if desired
For Spices
  • 1 unit Cinnamon Stick adds warm spice flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly Grated Ginger adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Freshly Grated Nutmeg

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Wash and chop apples and pears into small pieces, removing cores or seeds. Place in slow cooker and drizzle with lemon juice.
  2. If using a vanilla bean, slice it open and scrape seeds into slow cooker. Add light brown sugar, cinnamon stick, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg. Toss together.
  3. Cover slow cooker and set to low heat. Cook for about 6 hours or until fruit is tender.
  4. Remove lid, discard cinnamon stick and vanilla pod. Puree mixture with an immersion blender to desired smoothness.
  5. Enjoy warm or allow to cool. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
