Preparation Steps
- Begin by peeling your sweet onions and carefully slicing off the top 1/4 inch. Create 8-12 vertical cuts around each onion.
- Immerse the prepared onions in buttermilk, ensuring they're fully covered. Allow them to soak for 10-15 minutes.
- Combine flour, seasoned bread crumbs, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper until evenly mixed.
- Remove the onions from buttermilk and coat them in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the coated onions in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Prepare the ranch dip by mixing mayonnaise, buttermilk, garlic powder, dried dill, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Once fried and drained, serve the crispy mini bloomin’ onions alongside the ranch dip.
