Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch baking pan by greasing it and lining with parchment paper.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice your chosen apples, tossing with a touch of lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, whisk melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan, layer half of the apple slices, then dollop the remaining batter and top with the rest of the apple slices.
  7. Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon for the topping and sprinkle over the batter and apples.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
