Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 9-inch round baking pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the white cake mix, milk, vegetable oil, eggs, pudding mix, and orange gelatin.
- Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
- Divide the batter among the three pans and bake for approximately 25 minutes.
- Cool the layers in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Combine the drained pineapple, sugar, shredded coconut, and sour cream in a separate bowl; set aside 1 cup for frosting.
- Assemble the cake by layering the first cake layer with half the filling, then add the second layer and rest of the filling, and finally top with the third layer.
- Mix the thawed whipped topping with reserved filling and frost the cake.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with orange slices and pineapple tidbits before serving.
