Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Can be substituted with turkey for a lighter option.

  • 8 ounces Velveeta Swap with cheddar cheese for a sharper flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Soy sauce can be used as a gluten-free alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano Consider using other herbs like basil or thyme.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Salt Feel free to use fresh minced garlic for a bolder taste.
For Assembly
  • 24 slices Party Rye Bread Pumpernickel or sourdough can be alternatives.
  • 1 tablespoon Chopped Parsley Optional; substitute with chives if preferred.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Baking sheet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine 1 pound of ground beef and 1 pound of ground hot sausage. Cook until browned, about 8–10 minutes.
  2. Cut 8 ounces of Velveeta cheese into small cubes to help melt evenly when added to the meat mixture.
  3. Drain any excess grease from the skillet after the meats are fully cooked.
  4. Add the cubed Velveeta to the drained meat mixture, stirring until melted and creamy, about 3–5 minutes.
  5. Mix in 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of oregano, and 1 teaspoon of garlic salt. Heat through for another 2 minutes.
  6. Preheat your broiler to high and line a baking sheet with slices of party rye bread.
  7. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the meat and cheese mixture onto each slice of bread, spreading slightly for even coverage.
  8. Broil for 2–3 minutes until hot and bubbly, watching closely to prevent burning.
  9. Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving for added color and freshness.
