Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into four equal patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each one to prevent puffing while cooking.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness.
- Add Toppings: In the last minute of cooking, pile the diced bell peppers, onions, and pepperoni slices on top of each patty. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the toppings, then cover with a lid to help melt the cheese quickly.
- Toast the Buns: Slice the burger buns in half and place them cut-side down on a separate skillet over medium heat. Toast for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Assemble the Burgers: Spread a generous amount of pizza sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the cheesy patty on top and add optional fresh basil or arugula.
- Serve: Top each burger with the other half of the toasted bun, pressing down gently. Serve immediately with potato chips or a light salad.
