Ingredients

For the Topping
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Can be substituted with margarine or vegan butter.
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Opt for gluten-free flour if desired.
  • 1 cup Granulated White Sugar Reduce to ½ cup for a less sweet outcome.
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder Make sure it's fresh for best results.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor and balances sweetness.
  • 1 cup Milk Alternative milks like almond or oat work great too.
For the Peach Filling
  • 4 cups Fresh Peaches Frozen peaches are a good alternative when fresh isn't available.
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice Can substitute with lime juice if needed.

Equipment

  • 9x9-inch baking dish
  • medium saucepan
  • Large mixing bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a 9x9-inch baking dish, place the unsalted butter and set it in the preheating oven to melt completely, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pit and slice the fresh peaches. In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced peaches, 1/4 cup sugar, and a splash of lemon juice. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes until the peaches soften slightly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3/4 cup sugar, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center.
  5. Slowly pour in the milk into the dry mixture and stir gently just until combined. Pour this batter over the melted butter in the baking dish.
  6. Layer the peach mixture over the batter in the baking dish without stirring.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
