  • 6 fresh blackberries Primary flavor; can use frozen if thawed.
  • handful basil leaves Adds herbal note; reserve some for garnish.
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup) Natural sweetener; adjust to taste.
  • 1 medium fresh lime Juice from half a lime.
  • 4-6 ounces sparkling water For fizz; choose plain or flavored.
  • as desired ice cubes Optional for chilling.
  • a few extra blackberries For garnish.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine about 6 fresh blackberries and a handful of basil leaves. Muddle for about 30 seconds.
  2. Add 1-2 tablespoons of honey (or maple syrup) and juice from half a lime. If desired, add ice cubes and stir gently.
  3. Shake the mixture vigorously for about 20 seconds until well combined and chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into a tall glass using a fine mesh strainer.
  5. Top with about 4-6 ounces of sparkling water and stir gently to combine.
  6. Garnish with extra blackberries and basil sprigs. Optionally, add more ice cubes before serving.
