Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x9-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
- Cream together 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
- Add 1 egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the mixture, mixing until fully incorporated and smooth (1-2 minutes).
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.
- Pour half of the cookie batter into the lined baking pan, spread evenly, then drizzle 1/2 cup of salted caramel sauce over it. Dollop the remaining cookie batter on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 14–16 minutes until the edges turn golden brown and the center remains slightly soft.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before lifting them out and slicing into squares to serve.
