For the Picadillo
  • 1 pound Ground Beef the heart of the dish
  • 1 medium Onion diced, yellow or white preferred
  • 1 medium Bell Pepper diced, any color
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce or crushed/fresh tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup Green Olives sliced
  • 1/4 cup Raisins or chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano to taste
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For Serving
  • 2 cups White Rice fluffy
  • 1 can Black Beans drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup Fried Plantains caramelized

Cooking Steps
  1. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Increase the heat to medium-high, add ground beef, breaking it apart and cooking for about 8 minutes until browned.
  3. Lower the heat back to medium, stir in tomato sauce, sliced olives, and raisins. Add cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Cover the skillet, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer gently for about 20 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve warm over white rice, with black beans and fried plantains.
