  • 2 cloves minced garlic fresh preferred
  • 1 piece chipotle pepper in adobo finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon adobo sauce optional
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or regular soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin or coriander
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 large egg or flax egg
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs or oats for gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil for brushing
  • 6 pieces hamburger buns gluten-free if necessary

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine black beans, grated onion, minced garlic, chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, tamari, balsamic vinegar, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  2. Gently mash the mixture until it holds together, leaving some chunks for texture.
  3. Fold in the egg and panko breadcrumbs into the mashed mixture, ensuring everything is well combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into 6 equal-sized patties.
  5. Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium heat or prepare the grill to 400°F.
  6. Cook the patties for about 5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Serve on hamburger buns with your choice of toppings.
