  • 4 large Pears Natural sweetness and texture; any sweet variety can be used for delightful results.

  • 2 cups Fresh Pumpkin or Butternut Squash Adds creaminess and sweetness; canned pumpkin works well if fresh is unavailable.

  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cardamom Introduces a sweet, floral note; elevates the flavor beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger Provides warmth and a hint of spice; vital for the cozy taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves Adds an earthy flavor; an essential note that rounds out the butter.

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by washing and peeling the large pears and apples. Core and chop them into small pieces, ensuring even cooking.
  2. If using fresh pumpkin, peel and cube it as well; canned pumpkin can be added directly. Add all the chopped fruit, fresh pumpkin, lemon juice, brown sugar, and spices into the slow cooker.
  3. Place the lid on the slow cooker but prop it open slightly with a wooden spoon. Set your slow cooker to the low setting and let it work for 8 to 10 hours.
  4. Check the mixture for thickness after about 8 hours. If necessary, increase the heat to high for 1 to 2 additional hours.
  5. Once thick, carefully transfer portions of the cooked fruit into a blender and blend until smooth. Return the puréed mixture to the slow cooker to maintain warmth.
  6. Allow to cool slightly, then transfer into freezer bags or airtight containers for storage. Label containers with the date.
