  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs or use gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated Pecorino Romano can be used
  • 0.25 cup Fresh Parsley, chopped or replace with fresh cilantro
  • 0.25 cup Fresh Basil, chopped use dried basil as substitute
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped or use shallots
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced or use garlic powder
  • 2 Eggs or use flaxseed meal for vegan option
  • 1 cup Marinara Sauce homemade or store-bought
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning adjust with individual herbs if needed
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded or try provolone or fontina

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté chopped onions and minced garlic for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, parsley, and basil. Add onion and garlic, eggs, marinara, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.
  4. Transfer the mixture onto parchment paper and shape it into a rectangle, about 1 inch thick, measuring 12 by 8 inches.
  5. Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the top, leaving edges clear. Add optional pepperoni or prosciutto if using.
  6. Roll the meat mixture tightly from the parchment, seam side down.
  7. Transfer to the baking sheet, seam side down, and spoon marinara sauce over the top.
  8. Bake for 60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C) and it's golden brown.
  9. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
