  • 24 ounces Prepared Spaghetti Sauce Opt for low-sodium varieties
For the Cheese Mixture
  • 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese Or use cottage cheese
  • 1 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Fresh mozzarella preferred
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Substitute with Pecorino Romano if desired
  • 1/4 cup Dried/Fresh Parsley Fresh for brighter taste
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper
For the Lasagna Layers
  • 12 noodles Uncooked Lasagna Noodles
  • 1/4 cup Water If using thick sauce

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9x13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. Brown the ground beef and sweet Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat, drain fat, and stir in minced garlic and spaghetti sauce.
  3. Mix ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper in a bowl until smooth.
  4. Spread 3/4 cup of meat sauce in the dish, layer noodles, cheese mixture, and meat sauce, repeating the process.
  5. Top with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Add water if needed and cover with foil.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes covered, then remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
  7. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving to set the layers.
