Description

This Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry is the perfect combination of bold flavors and wholesome ingredients, all in one skillet. With juicy ground beef, tender cabbage, and a savory sauce, this quick and easy meal is ideal for busy weeknights or when you need a comforting yet nutritious dish. Enjoy it with rice, noodles, or as a low-carb option with cauliflower rice!

Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) water
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste

For the Stir Fry:

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 small head cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 carrots, cut into matchsticks
  • 4 spring onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together sesame oil, soy sauce, water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame seeds (if using), and black pepper. Set aside.
  2. Heat the Skillet:
    • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add cooking oil and let it heat until shimmering.
  3. Cook the Beef:
    • Add minced garlic, ginger, and ground beef to the skillet. Break up the beef with a wooden spoon and cook for 5–7 minutes, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Add the Vegetables:
    • Stir in the sliced cabbage and carrots. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the vegetables to soften while retaining some crunch.
  5. Incorporate the Sauce:
    • Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet. Stir to coat the beef and vegetables evenly. Cook for an additional 3–4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Finish with Spring Onions:
    • Add sliced spring onions and stir to combine. Remove from heat.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve immediately over steamed rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.

Notes

  • Use Napa or green cabbage for best results.
  • Adjust the sauce by adding chili flakes for spice or honey for extra sweetness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
