Description
Buttery Italian Spritz Cookies are delightful, light, and crispy cookies that are perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup colored sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture, and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Transfer the dough to a cookie press fitted with your desired shape disc. If you don’t have a cookie press, you can use a piping bag with a large star tip.
- Press or pipe the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. If desired, sprinkle colored sprinkles on top of each cookie.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a chocolate variation, substitute 1/4 cup of the flour with unsweetened cocoa powder.
- For a citrus twist, add the zest of one lemon or orange to the dough for added flavor.
