Description

A nostalgic, diner-style patty melt featuring crispy, buttery rye bread, juicy seasoned beef, and perfectly melted cheese. A true comfort food classic!

Ingredients

  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ¾ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon real bacon bits
  • 1 teaspoon sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices Provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  2. Season the Beef: Mix ground beef with black pepper, salt, and onion powder. Shape into patties that match the shape of the bread.
  3. Cook the Patties: Sear in a skillet over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes per side, then reduce heat and cook for another 5 minutes until fully browned.
  4. Make the Sauce: Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a bowl.
  5. Assemble the Sandwich: Place a buttered bread slice (butter-side down) in a skillet, add cheddar cheese, a cooked patty, Provolone cheese, and spread sauce on the second bread slice before placing it on top.
  6. Toast to Perfection: Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Remove from heat, slice, and serve warm!

Notes

  • Substitute rye bread with sourdough or Texas toast for a different flavor.
  • Use Swiss cheese instead of Provolone for a classic touch.
  • Add caramelized onions for extra flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a skillet.
