Description
Rich, velvety, and slightly tangy, Creme Fraiche Mashed Potatoes are a luxurious twist on the classic comfort food. Perfect for holiday feasts or weeknight dinners, this recipe brings gourmet flair to your table while pairing beautifully with any main dish.
Ingredients
- 3½ pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and halved
- 4 tablespoons butter (unsalted preferred)
- 8–9 ounces creme fraiche
- ¼ cup heavy cream (or substitute milk or half & half)
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- Chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Potatoes:
Peel and halve the potatoes for even cooking. Place them in a large pot, cover with salted water, and bring to a boil.
2. Cook Until Fork-Tender:
Reduce heat to a simmer once the water boils. Cook the potatoes for 10–15 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.
3. Drain and Mash:
Drain the potatoes and transfer them to a large bowl. Mash using a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
4. Add the Creamy Ingredients:
Incorporate butter, creme fraiche, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Mash until well combined and the desired consistency is achieved.
5. Mix and Serve:
Use a spatula to ensure even mixing. Garnish with chives if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- For fluffy mashed potatoes, use russet potatoes; for a creamier texture, opt for Yukon Golds.
- Bring butter, creme fraiche, and cream to room temperature for smoother mixing.
