Description

Croque Madame Waffles are a delicious twist on the classic French dish, perfect for brunch. These waffles are topped with ham and a sunny-side-up egg, making them a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¾ cups milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 8 slices cooked ham
  • 4 large eggs (for topping)
  • Butter or oil for cooking eggs
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in the milk and melted butter until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the shredded Gruyère cheese.
  5. Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or a little melted butter. Pour enough batter into the waffle iron to cover the surface, close the lid, and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  6. While the waffles are cooking, heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook to your desired doneness (sunny-side up is traditional).
  7. To assemble, place a waffle on a plate, top with two slices of ham, and then add a cooked egg on top. Garnish with chopped parsley.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Croque Madame Waffles!

Notes

  • For a twist, add sautéed spinach or arugula between the ham and egg for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • If you prefer a different cheese, try using Swiss or cheddar for a unique taste.
