Description
Croque Madame Waffles are a delicious twist on the classic French dish, perfect for brunch. These waffles are topped with ham and a sunny-side-up egg, making them a hearty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 ¾ cups milk
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 8 slices cooked ham
- 4 large eggs (for topping)
- Butter or oil for cooking eggs
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in the milk and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the shredded Gruyère cheese.
- Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or a little melted butter. Pour enough batter into the waffle iron to cover the surface, close the lid, and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- While the waffles are cooking, heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter or oil. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook to your desired doneness (sunny-side up is traditional).
- To assemble, place a waffle on a plate, top with two slices of ham, and then add a cooked egg on top. Garnish with chopped parsley.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Croque Madame Waffles!
Notes
- For a twist, add sautéed spinach or arugula between the ham and egg for extra flavor and nutrition.
- If you prefer a different cheese, try using Swiss or cheddar for a unique taste.
