Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup brewed coffee (cooled)
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 12.25 oz caramel sauce (jar)
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk (can)
For Garnish:
- Chocolate sauce (as desired)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until smooth. Stir in the cooled brewed coffee.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool slightly.
- Prepare Caramel Mixture: Mix caramel sauce and sweetened condensed milk in a bowl.
- Poke and Soak: Once the cake is completely cool, poke holes with a wooden spoon and pour the caramel mixture over the cake.
- Chill: Refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to let the caramel soak in.
- Garnish and Serve: Drizzle chocolate sauce over the top before serving. Slice into squares and enjoy!
Notes
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The caramel flavor becomes richer as it sits.
- Freezing: You can freeze the cake (without the chocolate sauce garnish) for up to 3 months. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil before freezing. Thaw before serving.
- Coffee Substitute: If you don’t like coffee, you can replace it with hot water for a milder taste.
- Gluten-Free Option: Use a gluten-free flour blend as a substitute for all-purpose flour.
- Pan Size Adjustment: If you don’t have a 9×13-inch pan, you can use two smaller pans or a round cake pan. Just adjust the baking time accordingly.
