Description

Double Chocolate Banana Bread is the ultimate comfort treat, blending rich cocoa flavor with the natural sweetness of ripe bananas. Every bite is packed with gooey chocolate chips and moist, tender texture. Whether for breakfast, dessert, or a mid-day indulgence, this recipe is guaranteed to become a favorite.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • All-purpose flour – 1 ¼ cups (156g)
  • Unsweetened natural cocoa powder – ½ cup (41g)
  • Baking soda – 1 tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips – ¾ cup (135g) + 2 tbsp

Wet Ingredients:

  • Unsalted butter (softened) – ½ cup (113g)
  • Granulated sugar – ¾ cup (150g)
  • Large eggs (room temperature) – 2
  • Plain yogurt or sour cream – ¼ cup (60g)
  • Mashed bananas (ripe) – 1 ½ cups (345g)
  • Pure vanilla extract – 1 tsp
  • Hot water – 2 tbsp (30ml)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
    • Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Combine the Dry Ingredients
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Stir in ¾ cup of chocolate chips to evenly distribute.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar
    • Using a mixer, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar on high speed until smooth and creamy (about 2 minutes).
  • Add the Wet Ingredients
    • Reduce the mixer speed to medium. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Mix in yogurt, mashed bananas, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
    • On low speed, gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
    • Add the hot water and mix gently. The batter will be thick; avoid overmixing.
  • Pour and Top the Batter
    • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
    • Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips on top.
  • Bake the Bread
    • Bake for 60–65 minutes. Cover loosely with aluminum foil halfway through to prevent over-browning.
    • Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center—if it comes out clean or with moist crumbs, it’s ready.
  • Cool and Serve
    • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 1–2 hours.
    • Remove, slice, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Ripe Bananas: The sweeter and riper, the better for flavor.
  • Don’t Overmix: Overmixing can make the bread dense.
  • Customize: Add nuts, peanut butter swirls, or extra chocolate chips for variety.
