- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
For the Sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- ½ cup water or beef broth
For the Stir-Fry
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef
- Combine sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Toss until evenly coated and marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Sauce
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and water (or beef broth). Set aside.
- Cook the Beef
- Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef, cooking for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove the beef and set it aside.
- Stir-Fry the Vegetables
- In the same skillet, add the remaining vegetable oil. Stir-fry bell peppers and onions for 3-4 minutes. Add garlic and ginger, cooking for another 30 seconds.
- Combine Everything
- Return the beef to the skillet, pour in the sauce, and stir to coat everything. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with black pepper.
- Serve and Garnish
- Serve the pepper steak over steamed rice or noodles and garnish with green onions.
Notes
- Choose the Right Beef: Use sirloin or flank steak and slice thinly against the grain.
- Avoid Overcrowding the Pan: Cook beef in a single layer for optimal browning.
- Fresh Veggies: Use crisp bell peppers and onions for a perfect contrast in texture.
