Easy Homemade Beef Burritos are a flavor-packed, customizable, and satisfying dish that’s perfect for family dinners, meal prep, or casual gatherings. With seasoned beef, fresh toppings, and warm tortillas, these burritos are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
For the Burrito Seasoning:
- Onion powder – 1 tsp
- Dried oregano – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Cumin powder – 2 tsp
- Paprika – 2 tsp
- Black pepper – ¼ tsp
- Cayenne pepper (optional) – ¼ tsp
For the Beef Filling:
- Olive oil – ½ tbsp
- Garlic cloves, minced – 2
- Onion, finely chopped – ½
- Lean ground beef – 500g (1 lb)
- Tomato paste – 2 tbsp
- Water – 3 tbsp
For Assembly:
- Flour tortillas – 6–8 large (25cm/10″+)
- Cooked white rice – 3 cups
- Iceberg lettuce or cabbage, shredded – 3 cups
- Corn kernels – 1 cup
- Black beans – 1 cup
- Tomatoes, deseeded and diced – 3
- Red onion, finely chopped – ½
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional) – To taste
- Shredded cheese – 1 ½ cups
Instructions
- Prepare the Burrito Seasoning
- Combine all seasoning ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.
- Cook the Beef Filling
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until fragrant and lightly browned.
- Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook until browned.
- Stir in the seasoning, tomato paste, and water. Mix well and cook for another 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Warm the Tortillas (Optional)
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave to make them more pliable.
- Assemble the Burritos
- Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface.
- Layer the following ingredients just below the center of the tortilla:
- Rice
- Beef filling
- Lettuce or cabbage
- Corn kernels
- Black beans
- Tomatoes
- Red onion
- Cilantro (optional)
- Shredded cheese
- Fold the bottom of the tortilla up over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
- Heat the Burritos (Optional)
- Wrap each burrito in aluminum foil.
- Heat in a skillet for 2–3 minutes per side until crispy, or bake at 350°F (180°C) for 20 minutes.
Notes
- Avoid Overfilling: Too much filling makes burritos difficult to roll.
- Cool the Filling: Slightly cooled beef filling prevents soggy tortillas.
- Customizable: Add guacamole, sour cream, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
