Hawaiian Shoyu Chicken is a flavorful dish featuring marinated chicken thighs baked to perfection, offering a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, pineapple juice, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it in a baking dish. Pour the remaining marinade over the chicken.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Baste the chicken with the marinade halfway through cooking for extra flavor.
  6. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
