Ingredients
- Frozen breaded chicken patties – 2 (provides crispy chicken base)
- Garlic butter – 2 tbsp (adds flavor and crisps the bread)
- Italian bread – 4 slices (acts as the sandwich base)
- Marinara sauce – 1 cup (brings tangy, savory flavor)
- Dried basil – 1/2 tsp (adds herby depth to the marinara)
- Garlic salt – 1 pinch (enhances flavor)
- Provolone cheese (thin slices) – 6 slices (melty, creamy goodness)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken Patties
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake frozen chicken patties on a baking sheet for 20 minutes or until crispy. Slice each patty in half lengthwise. - Prep the Bread and Sauce
Spread garlic butter on one side of each slice of Italian bread. In a microwave-safe bowl, mix marinara sauce, dried basil, and garlic salt. Heat for 30 seconds to 1 minute until warm, then stir. - Assemble the Sandwiches
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the skillet. Layer as follows:- 2 slices provolone cheese
- 1 tbsp marinara sauce
- 2 chicken patty halves
- 2 tbsp marinara sauce
- 1 slice provolone cheese
- Top with another slice of bread, butter-side up.
- Cook the Sandwiches
Cook each sandwich over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side, until bread is golden brown and cheese melts. Repeat with the remaining ingredients. - Serve and Garnish
Sprinkle shredded Parmesan cheese over leftover marinara sauce, heat slightly, and serve as a dipping sauce. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.
Notes
- Bread Choice: Italian bread works great, but sourdough or sturdy white bread are also good options.
- Cheese Customization: Swap provolone for mozzarella or a mozzarella-Parmesan blend for extra cheesiness.
- Avoid Soggy Bread: Use butter sparingly and layer the ingredients carefully.
- High-Quality Marinara: Opt for a rich, flavorful marinara with minimal sugar.
