- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 5 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons molasses
- 1½ teaspoons instant dry yeast
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
For the Topping:
- Oats (for sprinkling on top before baking)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water, brown sugar, honey, molasses, and yeast. Let sit until foamy (about 5-10 minutes).
- Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead & First Rise: Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes until doubled in size.
- Shape the Loaves: Divide into 8 equal pieces, shape into ovals, and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Second Rise & Toppings: Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Sprinkle with oats for an authentic steakhouse-style finish.
- Bake to Perfection: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool & Serve: Let the bread cool slightly before slicing and serving warm with butter.
