Description

Rich, buttery garlic mushrooms sautéed to golden perfection—this steakhouse-style side dish is packed with umami, garlic, and fresh herbs. Whether paired with steak, chicken, or pasta, these garlic butter mushrooms are easy to make and irresistibly delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb cremini or button mushrooms, whole or thickly sliced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for extra umami)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
  • ½ tsp dried oregano or thyme
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives, for garnish

Instructions

1. Prep the Mushrooms

  • Wipe mushrooms clean with a damp paper towel (avoid rinsing under water to prevent sogginess).
  • Slice in half if large or keep whole for a meatier texture.

2. Sauté for a Golden Brown Finish

  • Heat olive oil and 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add mushrooms in a single layer (do not overcrowd the pan).
  • Cook for 4-5 minutes without stirring to allow browning.

3. Infuse with Garlic Butter Flavor

  • Add remaining butter, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, black pepper, paprika, and oregano.
  • Stir well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the garlic is fragrant.

4. Let the Flavors Meld

  • Lower the heat and cook for another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mushrooms are tender and coated in the sauce.

5. Garnish and Serve

  • Sprinkle with fresh parsley or chives and serve warm.
  • Perfect with steak, pasta, roasted chicken, or even as a topping for toasted sourdough!

Notes

  • For Extra Umami: Add a splash of balsamic vinegar or red wine in the last few minutes.
  • Make It Creamy: Stir in ¼ cup heavy cream for a velvety, indulgent sauce.
  • Spicy Version: Increase red pepper flakes or drizzle with hot honey.
  • Storage:
    • Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
    • Reheat in a skillet over low heat with a little butter.
