Description

Angel Chicken Rice is the ultimate comfort food—a creamy, cheesy, and savory dish that combines tender chicken, fluffy rice, and a rich, velvety sauce. This one-pan meal is perfect for family dinners, meal prep, or potlucks. With simple ingredients and an easy cooking process, it’s a go-to recipe for busy home cooks looking for a hearty and delicious dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, brown, or jasmine)
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 packet Italian dressing mix (or 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Colby Jack, or mozzarella)

Optional Add-Ins & Toppings:

  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (for spice)
  • 1 cup spinach or mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish

Instructions

 Preheat & Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.

2. Make the Creamy Sauce

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of chicken soup, cream cheese, melted butter, chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian dressing mix.
  • Stir until smooth and well combined.

3. Assemble the Casserole

  • Spread the cooked rice evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Layer the shredded chicken on top of the rice.
  • Pour the creamy sauce over the chicken and rice, spreading it evenly.

4. Add Cheese & Bake

  • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

5. Garnish & Serve

  • Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan, fresh parsley, and bacon (if using).
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Rotisserie Chicken: A quick and flavorful alternative to cooking fresh chicken.
  • Don’t Skip Seasoning: The Italian dressing mix provides a zesty, herby boost.
  • Cook Rice Separately: Ensures each grain stays fluffy and absorbs flavors perfectly.
  • Adjust Sauce Thickness: If too thick, add extra chicken broth; if too thin, bake uncovered longer.
  • Make It Crispy: Add breadcrumbs or extra cheese on top before baking for a crunchy finish.
