Whether you’re hosting a potluck or satisfying your own sweet tooth, these bars are bound to be a hit and leave everyone asking for the recipe.

Ingredients

For the Bars:

  • 2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 5 oz Evaporated milk
  • 14 oz Caramels
  • 1/2 cup Peanut butter

Instructions

  • Prepare the Oven and Pan
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with sugar and brown sugar until creamy. Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until fully combined. Stir in the chocolate chips evenly.
  • Form the Base Layer
Spread half of the cookie dough evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  • Prepare the Caramel Sauce
While the base is baking, melt the caramels and evaporated milk in a double boiler or heatproof bowl over simmering water. Stir constantly until smooth, then add peanut butter and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Add the Caramel Layer
Pour the warm caramel sauce evenly over the baked base layer, gently spreading it with a spatula.
  • Top with Remaining Dough
Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cookie dough over the caramel. It doesn’t need to cover completely—this will create a marbled effect.
  • Bake to Perfection
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Remove from the oven and let the bars cool completely before slicing to ensure the caramel sets properly.
